Choose stuff you feel comfortable in and that makes you feel happy and relaxed. This will show in your photos! Just also keep the following in mind as you choose your comfy outfits:
This could be a hat, a watch, a belt, a bow tie, cowboy boots, sunglasses, a sports ball, your camera, a musical instrument, your favorite book...you get the idea. Anything that puts that special ‘you’ stamp on your image. Color coordination across accessories is fabulous too! I.E. belt that matches your shoes that matches your hat...
Texture comes in so many forms. Layers add texture. Different fabrics too! Wear that jacket, a vest, a scarf, your favorite sweater. Anything that adds an extra element or layer to your ensemble. Texture and layers are especially important if you want black and white photos!
I am partial to boots. Backroads and boots just seem to go together. Loafers, Vans, and Converse work too! Avoid athletic shoes/sneakers unless we are shooting you in your full athletic uniform. Otherwise, for a great sporty look, wear your jersey with denim and Converse or Van-style shoes
If you are planning a new do, get it done two weeks prior to your session. This way, you’ve
settled into your new look and we don't have any irritated skin to cover up. Wear your hair how you usually wear it. We want pics that look like you!
Aim for timeless styles that won’t date your photos. My personal favorites on the Backroads are soft, neutrals - navy, black, and grays for the guys. Subtle patterns like small floral or dotted prints too! Jeans and a solid-color top are timeless. Guys look fabulous in jeans and with layered tops - a polo-style short sleeve or Oxford-style long sleeve shirt with a white or light colored t-shirt underneath. Jackets are great too. Avoid Graphic tees and large logo/branded items. Also avoid bright, bold colors and patterns, including anything neon!
Bring more than one outfit and feel free to mix and match - swapping tops out, shoes, and bottoms too. Depending on your photo location(s), you may need to change in a car or public bathroom, but feel free to bring more than one of your favorites!
Have something specific in mind? Can’t decide what to wear? Anything. Please ask - before your shoot. Planning together ahead of time, makes your photoshoot even more fun and the end result exactly what you’re looking for!
